కర్ణాటక సంగీత ముమూర్తులలో అగ్రజులు, అగ్రగణ్యులు అయిన సద్గురు శ్రీ త్యాగరాజస్వామివారు 1847 పుష్య మాస బహుళ పంచమి తిథినాడు శ్రీరామునిలో ఐక్యమైనారు. అదే బహుళ పంచమి నాడు (మాఘ మాసం) 1974 లో త్యాగయ్యగారి శిష్య, ప్రశిష్య పరంపర క్రమంలోనుండి వచ్చి కర్ణాటక సంగీతంలో నిష్ణాతుడై, నవ్య లలిత సంగీత నిర్మాతగా సంగీత ప్రియుల హృదయాలలో సుస్థిర స్థానం పొందిన ఘంటసాల వేంకటేశ్వర రావుగారు కలియుగదైవమైన తిరుపతి వేంకటేశ్వరుని స్మరిస్తూనే ఆ దైవంలో కలిసిపోయారు.

భారతీయ చలనచిత్ర వినీలాకాశంలో ఘంటసాల అనే విశిష్ట తార నేల రాలకుండా మింటికెగిసి ధృవతారగా వెలుగొందుతూ తన అపురూప రాగాలను ప్రకృతినంతా నింపుతూ సంగీతప్రియులను అలరిస్తోంది.

1944 నుండి 1974 వరకు సుమారు మూడు దశాబ్దాల కాలం తెలుగు చలనచిత్ర సినీమా సంగీతరంగంలో ఒక స్వర్ణయుగ సృష్టికర్తగా, ఒక శకపురుషునిగా  కోట్లాది ప్రజల ప్రేమాభిమానాలను పొందిన విశిష్ట గాయకుడు, సంగీత దర్శకుడు ఘంటసాలవారు. రెండున్నర దశాబ్దాలకు పైగా  చిత్రసంగీత రంగంలో  అగ్రస్థానం అధిష్టించిన ఘంటసాలవారి సుదీర్ఘ సినీజీవనయానంలో వారితో కలసి పయనించిన కళాకారులు అసంఖ్యాకం.

ఆ కళాకారుల పురోభివృద్ధికి ఘంటసాల మాస్టారి అపూర్వ గాన ప్రతిభ ప్రత్యక్షంగానో లేక పరోక్షంగానో ఎంతో దోహదపడింది.  ఇది అందరూ అంగీకరించిన సత్యం. వివిధ భాషలకు చెందిన ఇన్నివందల మంది   అగ్రశ్రేణి కళాకారులందరితో  సఖ్యతతో అజాతశతృవుగా కలసిమెలసి పనిచేసిన ఏకైక గాయక, సంగీతదర్శకుడు ఘంటసాల అంటే అతిశయోక్తి కానేరదు.  నిజం చెప్పాలంటే ప్రపంచస్థాయిలోనే ఇది ఒక గొప్ప రికార్డ్ గా నమోదు కావలసి వుంది. ఇంతమంది సంగీతదర్శకులతో, గాయనీగాయకులతో, వాద్యకళాకారులతో,  నటీనటులతో, సాంకేతిక నిపుణులతో తలలో నాలుకలా వ్యవహరిస్తూ అందరి మన్ననలు పొందిన సంగీత స్రష్ట ఘంటసాల.

1944 నుండి 1974 వరకు సుమారు 1226 తెలుగు సినీమాలు (డబ్బింగ్ తో సహా) విడుదలైనట్లు ఒక అంచనా. అందులో  గాయకుడిగా, సంగీతదర్శకుడిగా ఘంటసాలవారి భాగస్వామ్యం 656 చిత్రాలు. ఈ సమాచారమే  సంపూర్ణం, సమగ్రం అని చెప్పలేము. దాదాపు మరో 110 చిత్రాలకు సంబంధించిన వివరాలు అలభ్యం. అలాగే, నిర్మాణం మధ్యలో ఆగిపోయినవి,  ఎవరికీ తెలియక కాలగర్భంలో కలిసిపోయిన చిత్రాలు మరెన్నో. ఇవన్నీ లభ్యమైతే ఘంటసాలవారి ఆణిముత్యాలు మరికొన్ని వందలు లభ్యమయ్యేవి.

మూడు దశాబ్దాల కాలంలో ఘంటసాలవారు ఆలపించిన గీతాలు 5000 కు మించి వుండవనే అనిపిస్తుంది. ప్రస్తుతం అందుబాటులో వున్న గణాంకాల ప్రకారం ఘంటసాల మాస్టారికి సంబంధించిన వివరాలు ఈ క్రింద పొందుపరస్తున్నాను.

వీరు కాక నృత్యగీతాలకు అభినయించన కళాకారులు, పేరు తెలియని జూనియర్ నటులెందరికో ఘంటసాలవారి గళం తోడ్పడింది. ఘంటసాలవారంటే ప్రజలంతా అంతటి మక్కువ, మమకారం ఏర్పర్చుకోవడానికి కారణం ఆయనలోని అసాధారణ సమ్మోహన గాత్రధర్మం ఒక్కటేకాదు, వారిలోని వినయవిధేయతలు,సౌజన్యం, సేవాగుణం, కృతజ్ఞతాభావం, యివన్నీ ఘంటసాలవారిని ప్రజలకు మరింత దగ్గర చేసాయి. గాయకుడిగా ఎంత ఉన్నతికి చేరినా, ఎంతటి ధనార్జన చేసినా  దర్పానికి పోకుండా చివరివరకూ  అతి నిరాడంబరంగానే జీవించారు. సినీమా ప్రపంచంలో ఈ రకమైన వ్యక్తిత్వం గల వ్యక్తులు బహు అరుదుగా కనిపిస్తారు. ఇంతటి విశిష్టమైన వ్యక్తి కనుకనే ఆ తరంనుండి ఈ తరం వరకు  సంగీతాభిమానులంతా ఘంటసాలను తమ ఆత్మీయగాయకుడిగా భక్తితో ఆరాధిస్తున్నారు. ఆ ప్రజాభిమానమే వేయి పురస్కారాల పెట్టు. 

గత 77 సంవత్సరాలుగా ప్రజలందరిచేతా ఆరాధించబడుతున్న ఈ ప్రజాగాయకుని  సమున్నత బిరుదు ప్రదానం విషయంలో మాత్రం  కేంద్ర , రాష్ట్ర  ప్రభుత్వాలు ఉదాసీనంగా వ్యవహరిస్తూండడం చాలా బాధాకరమైన విషయం.

ఉత్తమ కళాకారులను గుర్తించలేని ప్రభుత్వపు బిరుదులు కన్నా కోట్లాది సంగీతాభిమానులు ఇచ్చిన గౌరవం, అభిమానమే మిన్న. 

ఘంటసాల మాస్టారు ఉన్నకాలంలోనే  అసంఖ్యాకులైన జూనియర్ ఘంటసాలలు దేశమంతా తయారయి ఘంటసాల పాటలను ఘంటసాలగారికే వినిపించేవారు.  వారు భౌతికంగా దూరమైన తర్వాత కూడా జూనియర్ ఘంటసాలల సంఖ్య మరింత పెరిగింది. వారి పాటలు విస్తృతంగా వినిపించసాగాయి.  ఘంటసాల పాటలు పాడడమే వృత్తిగా చేసుకుని వృధ్ధిపొందినవారు,  ఘంటసాల పాటలతో విదేశపర్యటనలు జరిపి ఖ్యాతి పొందుతున్నవారు ఎందరో. 

ఘంటసాల గీతాలతో నాట్యప్రదర్శనలకు శ్రీకారం చుట్టినది మా జంటసంస్థలే. అంతకు ముందు శాస్త్రీయ పధ్ధతిలో పాడిన సినీగీతాలకు నాట్యం చేయడానికి సందేహించిన సంప్రదాయ సంగీత కళాకారులంతా తర్వాత తర్వాత మేము ప్రవేశపెట్టిన బాణీనే అనుసరించారు. ఇంకా కొనసాగిస్తున్నారు. ఘంటసాల జయంతి, వర్ధంతి ఉత్సవాలతో అనేక సాంస్కృతిక సంస్థలు దేశ విదేశాలలో ఘంటసాలవారిపట్ల తమకు గల భక్తిని గౌరవాన్ని చాటిచెపుతున్నారు. దేశంలో మరే సినీ సంగీత కళాకారుడికి దక్కని గౌరవం,  మర్యాద, అభిమానం విగ్రహావిష్కరణ రూపంలో ఘంటసాలవారికి దక్కింది. ఒకప్పుడు సినీరంగానికే పరిమితమైన "మాస్టారు" సంబోధన ఇప్పుడు ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తమయింది.

గాన గంధర్వుడు ఘంటసాలవారి శతజయంతి సందర్భంగా ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా నిర్వహించబడుతున్న సాంస్కృతికోత్సవాలు ఘంటసాల మాస్టారి ఔన్నత్యాన్ని అఖండ కీర్తిని మరింత చాటిచెపుతాయి.

ఘంటసాల సంగీతం ఒక చైతన్య స్రవంతి. ఒక జీవవాహిని. అనంతంగా ప్రవహిస్తూనే వుంటుంది.

ఈ ప్రపంచంలో తెలుగు భాష ఉన్నంతవరకూ, తెలుగుజాతి ఉన్నంతవరకూ ఘంటసాల పాట, ఘంటసాలను గురించిన మాట వినిపిస్తూనే వుంటాయి. సంగీత వినీలాకాశంలో ఒక ధృవతార మన ఘంటసాల. అమరుడు ఘంటసాల.
